In a few days many of the popular lakes in the region will be closing until next spring. Good thing we have several year-round lakes that offer good trout fishing, and some very popular other fisheries getting underway. High on the list of anglers is the perch fishing at Moses Lake. There have been a good number of folks fishing from the I-90 Bridge and catching some dandy crappie already. Soon the schools of perch will be gathering in the area of the bridge as well. Last year the perch fishing was the best I have seen in years. Years ago, I would drive to Moses Lake and fish off the rip rap and catch not only a bunch of perch, but some good-sized ones as, too. Last year, one day fishing with friends from a boat just above the bridge, I caught eight fish with my first four casts. That’s right two at a time, and they were all keepers. It took the three of us less than two hours to put 75 perch in the boat. It took us about that long to filet them. We had had a lot of perch dinners to enjoy later on.
