Good news for fans of fishing for coho salmon on the Icicle River. Seems the recent rains have moved fish up the Columba and the Wenatchee and into the Icicle. It is scheduled to open to fishing for coho on November 1st. I really didn’t think it was going to open this year. The counts were not that great, and the Icicle river was about as low as I have ever seen it. It sure came with the recent downpours we’ve had here in Leavenworth, though. Here’s the important details. As usual the minimum size is 12 inches, and the daily limit is two coho. You must release all salmon other than coho. Fishing with bait (including scents and flavors) is prohibited. A night closure is in effect. Barbed hooks are allowed. Anglers may not use the two-pole endorsement in this fishery. As soon as I saw the news release I ran over to the hatchery and took a look. There were some fish at the intake at the bridge and I saw a few from the handicapped platform downstream. Get your twitching jigs ready! I have had some fun catching coho on the Icicle. It’s a beautiful place to fish.
