Many boaters have tucked their boats away for winter at this time of year, but that doesn’t mean they have stopped fishing. There are several popular destinations in the winter where I find good numbers of anglers fishing from shore for rainbow. On Lake Roosevelt I will find them at Spring Canyon, where I have had good success soaking Power Bait or a marshmallow and shrimp combo. It’s just a couple miles outside of the town of Grand Coulee. Even closer to town is Crescent Bay. There is a nice beach here, and anglers will need to walk further and further down to reach the water as the level of Lake Roosevelt drops. Probably my favorite is fishing from the shore at the Federal Park at Keller. There is lots of room for shore anglers here, and there are garbage cans and picnic tables at the accesses, and even toilets nearby. I can usually tell if the fishing has been good when I arrive, by the number of anglers fishing here. Lake Roosevelt rainbow will average about 16 inches, and it is not unusual to land fish that measure over 20 inches. They are excellent table fare, too.
