Someone asked me about the spring salmon season on the Icicle River this year and I told them I had my doubts about it. I had heard that the run was expected to be very low this year and that there were other issues at the hatchery that made the prospects look dim. Well, I have been wrong before and I am happy report that I was wrong again. The opening of spring salmon fishing has been announced by the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife. Anglers will be able to take these salmon beginning one hour before sunrise on Sunday, May 31st. The daily limit will be one fish, adult or jack, and must be at least 12 inches. There are only about 1,700 spring salmon expected to arrive in the Icicle this year. The hatchery needs one thousand for brood stock purposes. The excess, beyond the hatchery needs, are available for harvest. These fish will be equally divided between recreational and tribal anglers. The full details of the fishery can be viewed on my Facebook page, along with a photo you will want to see. I am very pleased to be wrong about the Icicle spring salmon season. Good luck!
