When I was visiting different fishing locations on the opening day of the lowland lake trout season, I thought I would check on Franks Pond, in the Beebe Springs Natural Area. This is off Highway 97 just above the Beebe Bridge. Franks Pond is one of several Juvenile Ponds I found listed on the WDFW website that are scattered across the state. Juvenile Ponds are for youth and only kids under the age of 15 can fish them. Typically, these ponds are planted with rainbow prior to the opener and sometimes again in the early season. I walked the trail to the pond and when I arrived I saw a family fishing at the far end. I saw they were packing up so I waited on the trail for them. I asked them if they caught any fish and one of the young girls was very excited, saying she caught the biggest one. When I asked if I could get a photo she eagerly grabbed the stringer in the cooler and held it up with a big smile on her face. I love to see parents taking their kids to these ponds to get them hooked on fishing for life.
