By Dave Graybill

I remember fishing Jameson Lake 60 years ago and I referred to it as a trout factory for its growth rate back then. It is still the case. I always visit Jameson on the opening day of the lowland lake trout season, and I usually run into Travis Maitland, area biologist for Region 2. He said that he was excited about the sizes of the fingerling fry plants from 2004. They were 15 to 17 inches this year. The fingerling plants made in 2025 were 11 to 13 inches and nice and fat. This is great news for anglers that like to fish Jameson Lake. One of the things that I think is great about Jameson is the abundance of good shore access. As I arrived at the lake there were anglers fishing all the way from the very bottom end of the lake all the way up to the bluffs past the camping area from Jacks Resort. Not only was I seeing lots of rainbow being landed of the sizes that Travis observed, but there are always some real whoppers landed at Jameson. Check out the photo of one of them on my Facebook page.
