The second part of the two-day and three-destination fishing adventure I had with Rollie Schmitten included bass fishing on Banks Lake. We had a great time getting some nice triploid rainbow and then headed back to Coulee Dam and onto Steamboat Rock State Park to launch the Smoker Craft. I fired up the Mercury 250 and zoomed around the corner and across the lake to an area that I hadn’t fished for many years. I deployed the Minn Kota and kept an eye on the Garmin to avoid any sudden changes. I had Rollie start casting to the shore with a small lizard. He got into the swing of things right away and began landing smallmouth. I experimented with a variety of Senkos but found the lizards the most appealing to the fish. We worked our way down the east side of the lake, catching fish all along the way. We switched to top water fishing late in the afternoon, and this was really fun. Seeing the bass come up and smash the lures was very exciting. We both landed double digits of bass from little guys up to 2 or 3 pounds. Fishing is great on Banks this fall.
