By Dave Graybill

After I checked on the lakes in the Quincy Wildlife Area and the ones near George, I jumped on the highway and drove to Moses Lake. I had a feeling that the ice would be clearing off the big lake and wanted to see if it had opened up at the I-90 Bridge and may even the boat ramp at Blue Heron Park. Sure enough, when I walked down to the shore at the parking area at Blue Heron, I could see that there was plenty of open water. I would sure like to find the time to get there and fish for perch. The bite was terrific last fall, and the perch were bigger than the ones I caught in other lakes in the region. Even better, when I went over to check on the Blue Heron boat launch, I found it free of ice and there was even a boat coming off the water. Turns out the boaters were just out for a shakedown cruise, but said they marked schools of perch not far from the ramp. There was still ice on the lake above the boat launch, but it was clear down to the I-90 Bridge.
