By Dave Graybill

Looking at my calendar, I see that the first of March isn’t that far away, and that means there are several lakes in Grant County that will open to fishing. I was curious about conditions on a couple of the lakes in the Quincy Wildlife Area. Burke and Quincy lakes are very popular and see a lot of activity on the March 1st opener. I checked in with Mike Schmuck at the WDFW Region 2 office, and he reported that both of these lakes are ice free. He expects the fishing to be very good on the opener, and just to make sure anglers are happy, the department is going to make a special plant of rainbow. According to Schmuck each of these lakes will receive 1,500 one-pound rainbow prior to March 1st and will be hungry when opening day arrives. There are several other lakes in the Quincy Wildlife Area, and you may want to check out the video I did on the Quincy lakes that can be found on the Dave Graybill YouTube channel. Also, the annual Quincy Valley Chamber of Commerce Trout Derby is scheduled for March 27th and 28th this year.
