By Dave Graybill

My first trip to Banks Lake for walleye didn’t turn out as planned. My buddy James Lebow was right on time, and we made it to the Million Dollar Mile even earlier than expected. James was just about to back the boat into the water when I remembered that I forgot to get nightcrawlers at Big Wally’s. So, we ran up to Coulee Playland and got our bait there and launched. This put us way above where we had planned on fishing, but we hit a couple of spots on the way down lake. We were sure that we could find some willing walleye on Barker Flats. Nope. We tried the far side of the flat and actually got a couple of hits. We then headed for where we planned to start our day. We put a couple of crank baits out on side planers and did get one walleye. At that point we decided to switch to bass fishing. The good news is that we really whacked the smallmouth. We fished the new bass spinner from Wicked Lures, and it really did the job. This is the second time I have used these on Banks for bass and now it’s my go-to lure.
