It had been months since my good friend Rollie Schmitten, and I had gone fishing. This was pretty unusual for us. We really enjoy our time on the water together but scheduling a trip had been difficult. With the kokanee fishing so hot on Lake Chelan we just had to find time to spend at least a morning getting some of these tasty fish. We both love smoked kokanee. So, I did the same drill that I have been doing for a couple of weeks now. I launched at Mill Bay and ran down to Lakeside, this time not even stopping on the way. The screen on my depth sounder was full of fish and we started filling the cooler right away. The fishing wasn’t as good as the day before, and I will blame the wind for this. Also, when there are three people on board to rebait and set the gear it goes faster. I also did more than my share of letting fish get away. We also spent some time switching out Kokabow blades with the changing weather conditions, going from really bright colors to more subdued patterns. Still, it did take us long to put 20 kokanee in the cooler.
