By Dave Graybill

If you plan to fish the Reach for fall salmon, better get a move on. I talked to Paul Hoffarth at the Region 3 office of the WDFW and he said that fishing will remain open below Priest Rapids Dam through the weekend. They will be crunching the numbers on Monday to determine how much longer they can keep this stretch open without going over escapement needs. Even if the Reach closes below Priest Rapids Dam next week, the Wanapum Pool will remain open through the 15th. I talked to Austin Moser and asked if he had any advice for anglers planning to get in a trip or two before the Reach closes. He said that when there is good current back trolling eggs with jet divers or sardine wrapped Mag Lips is working best. When there is not much current he is trolling downstream with lead balls and Pro Troll flashers with Super Baits. He also suggests that anglers use the original style of Super Bait. I noticed that Shane Magnuson also preferred the original Super Baits when I fished with him down there recently.
