I want to remind everyone that the Statewide Trout Derby that is offered by the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife is still going through the end of October. This derby has been very popular with anglers and last year 50 percent of the tags were turned in. This year so far 594 tags have been claimed for prizes. There are still 450 tagged trout out there waiting for anglers to catch them. If you land one that has the green “spaghetti” tag be sure to call the number on it and give the department person, the tag number. The total prize value of all donated prizes is $39,609. So far $21,642 in prizes have been claimed. The prizes range from fishing tackle to gift certificates from sporting goods and retail stores from the area near the lakes that have been planted with tagged trout. Anglers have caught all the tagged trout in some lakes. These include Curlew Lake, Diamond Lake, Hook Park Pond, I-82 Pond 6, Myron Pond, Rotary Pond, Sylvia Lake, Tim’s Pond, Ward Lake, and Watson Lake. There is over $16,000 in prizes still available and anglers have to the end of the month to get them. Get out and get after ‘em!
