For FishingMagician.com, I'm Eric Granstrom. I think it's safe to say that the readers and listeners of these reports are outdoor men and women who, for at least half of which, enjoy hunting as well as fishing. For me, when October rolls around, the fishing rods head to their racks in my garage and the hunting gear comes out. Such was the case for the modern firearm deer opener last weekend. This year, I had my new hunting partner with me, my wife Marion. We didn't arrive in deer camp until 3 Saturday morning after I called Eastmont's football game Friday night. And even though the alarm came as an incredibly intrusive ending to some sweet dreams just three hours later, we both rose for the occasion. By 7 a.m., water leaked from my eyes as we began our ascent up a hillside and I scanned the forest for mule deer. Our packs were weighed down with supplies for the day including water, some jerky, and all the instruments I'd need to field dress an animal if fortune should come our way. By 9 a.m., we arrived at what I call the saddle. More on the hunt on Thursday. Until next time, Good Fishing!
