For FishingMagician.com, I'm Eric Granstrom. My wife Marion asked me a while ago about my "friends" on Facebook. She said, "how many of those people do you actually KNOW?" I said, "probably less than 25-percent." Many of the people who have friend requested me on Facebook have come through writing articles for Fishing Magician. Their profile picture usually includes something fishing-related, so I just hit the "accept" button and go on with my day. Lately, however, that has produced several phishing attempts. If you're not familiar with that term, it's an attempt to lure you through email or messages to reveal information or data about yourself. If someone you're "friends" with on Facebook sends you a message out of the blue saying, "Hello, how are you today?", be worried. Because honestly, who talks like that? It would be more casual like "hey!" or "what's up?" I had two of these encounters in the last two days. After a couple back-and-forths, I was hit with a link to click that sent warning alarms blaring. My suggestion is to click on your friend status and report them to Facebook. Our time is better spent fishing rather than being phished. Until next time, Good Fishing!"
