By Dave Graybill

I mentioned in an earlier report that the bite was back on for sockeye on Lake Wenatchee. I had much better success when I fished last Tuesday. On Wednesday Tom Verschueren and I had our limits by 8:30. We even ended the morning with a double and had to release a fish. The wind was blowing hard and when I was trolling with the wind I had to run my kicker in reverse to keep the boat straight and slow us down to the right speed. I talked to my friend Rollie, who went out on Thursday in the very high wind, and he got the angler on board his limit of four fish before he beat it back to the dock. When I fished with Travis Maitland last Tuesday I learned that about 75,000 sockeye had passed over Tumwater Dam, so there are lot more sockeye available that I thought. Also, good to know is that the quality of the fish is holding up nicely. The fillets are still a deep red. I had to be off the water for a couple of days, but I am very eager to get back out to put more sockeye in the freezer.
