It is time to get excited about salmon fishing in our region. Summer runs are making their way up the Columbia, and the forecast is for even more of these prized fish than last year. Almost 40 thousand of them have passed over Bonneville Dam already. Better make sure you are ready for them. First of all, make sure you have your license, punch card and Columbia River Endorsement. It’s a good idea to replace the line on your reels, and make sure you have all the tackle you need. Be sure to pick up some tuna fish to stuff in your Super Baits and a supply of your favorite scent. It is also a good idea to make sure your outboard is running right and you have enough life jackets on board for the number of people that you are taking on your salmon fishing adventure. The popular salmon fishing spots will be as crowded as they get on opening day, and I want to remind those who are driving the boat to keep your head on a swivel, looking for other boats. Don’t troll against the grain, too. Be safe, have good time and good luck!
