There is good news for those who are fans of fishing in Okanogan County. Many of the lakes that had clouded with flood waters earlier this season have cleared up. Blue Lake in the Sinlahekin, which is popular with fly fishers, is just now hitting its stride. The two lakes in Conconully are also producing trout and good numbers of kokanee. Rat Lake near Brewster is also a good prospect for trout angling. Alta Lake, near the town of Pateros has been good for trout and is also offers good fishing for kokanee. The lakes on the Colville Reservation are also very good prospects for trout anglers. Buffalo Lake has produced good catches of big triploids this season, and nearby McGinnis Lake has been a great place to find brook trout. As flows on the Columbia slow the ability for anglers to take advantage of the trout and walleye fishing on upper Rufus Woods is improving. This has been a banner year for big rainbow on Rufus Woods, but the action was stalled by the heavier than normal runoff earlier this spring. Before heading for your favorite campground in the Okanogan National Forest, check to be sure it is open now.
