The biggest summer holiday is coming up, as families all over the state celebrate the 4th of July. Huge numbers of them will be making a trip to Eastern Washington to take advantage of the many recreational activities we have to offer over here. Fishing is one of the primary reasons people visit the east side. Now that the kids are out of school the campgrounds will be packed. If you are planning to visit the many campgrounds in the Leavenworth area, here is something your family can do on the 4th. The Icicle Valley Chapter of Trout Unlimited is holding their annual Kids Fishing Day at the Blackbird Island Pond. This is a Juvenile Pond, where only kids under the age of 15 can fish for trout. Volunteers will be on hand with fishing tackle and bait and will help kids catch fish. The WDFW will make sure the pond is loaded with cutthroat trout. You can access this pond from Enchantment Park or the walking path along the Wenatchee River. This is a great way introduce youngsters and their families to the joy of fishing. Be sure to thank the local TU group for providing this free event.
