For FishingMagician.com, I'm Eric Granstrom. Two years ago, I met Dave at the Leavenworth National Fish Hatchery to do some Coho fishing in the Icicle River. Incredibly, I'd never done it before and Dave's an old hack at it, so I had him show me the ropes. Upon arrival on this crisp, October morning, the fishing platform below the hatchery was void of people. Dave suggested we try there first. Our spinning rods were setup with a purple and black jig. Looking in the pool below the platform, we could easily see dark figures gliding back and forth. Dave showed me how to cast to the top of the pool and twitch the jig while slowly reeling as it was slowly taken downstream by the current. He tried a few times and didn't get any takers, so he moved upstream a little. I cast to the top of the pool and saw a dark shadow dart towards my jig. Before I knew it, I was hooked up and fighting a Coho. I landed it on the nearby beach. Perfect for the smoker! If we get some more rain it will time to try again. Until next time, Good Fishing!
