For FishingMagician.com, I'm Eric Granstrom. 'Tis the season to fish Coho in rivers along the Washington coast. It reminds me of a trip I took years ago with my buddy Jimmy Grover to fish camp. We met up with Jared Cady of Get 'em Dry Fly Company and several guides including Mike Kancianich and Nate Bryant. We hoped to fish Coho along the Humptulips River in southwest Washington, but it was blown out. We ended up drift fishing the Cowlitz below the Barrier Dam. We fished during some of the hardest rain I've ever seen. We were all bundled up in rain gear from nose to toes and still got drenched. The fishing was fast and furious, however, as we drifted clusters of salmon eggs on a hook behind some pencil led. There were five of us in the boat and we'd drift down off a bank and Kancianich would tell us to toss our eggs towards the shoreline one at a time, all at a similar angle. The bite was light and tough to distinguish between scraping bottom with the pencil lead and a fish. We loaded up though and had a great time. Watch the video on our Facebook page. Until next time, Good Fishing!
