For FishingMagician.com I'm Eric Granstrom. When does the wind tell you when to say when? Marion and I were up at Banks Lake Saturday morning launching at Northrup while the winds increased. Heading out towards Steamboat, we could see several boats heading in. I could also see whitecaps on the water on the other side of Steamboat towards Barker Flats. We hid behind one of the rocks north of Steamboat while I arranged our gear and began trolling north of the rocks in about 35-feet of water. We marked a few fish on the screen, but the wind continued to increase in velocity. I'm still learning the walleye trick, but I know well enough that early season fishing in colder waters means you need to troll slowly. With the bowmount frothing in the waves, I struggled controlling the boat. After 2-hours of cussing and swearing, we finally picked up and headed in. We waited with the boat on the trailer in the parking lot through the afternoon to see if it would lie down. Finally, around 5:30, it did. We got in a decent 30-minutes before it whipped up again. Finally, the wind told us when to say when. Until next time, Good Fishing!
