The Banks Lake Triple Fish Challenge is coming up soon, and if you plan to fish it you had better get out and practice. You need to catch a walleye, a smallmouth bass and a trout to be in the prize picture, and the fishing for each of these species is getting better and better. If I was looking for walleye I would look deep. It is not unusual to find fish in 40 feet of water or even deeper. I would bottom bounce and at a slow speed. A Slow Death Rig, fished naked, would be a good choice, but I would also fish the Dutch Fork Turtle Shell in Blue Tiger on a worm harness. Smallmouth bass will be moving into the shallow bays and shorelines to begin their spawning exercises. I would cast crank baits in this type of water to attract their attention. I would also troll crank baits for the rainbow on Banks. Look for rip rap banks and troll tight to the rocks. You should also check out the video I did with Eric Granstrom and Keith Jensen to get some pointers, too. Just go to the Fishing TV Page on Fishingmagician.com to watch it.

Here I am with a nice pre-spawn walleye I got while fishing with Austin Moser. Note the Turtle Shell Blue Tiger blade in its mouth.
