By Eric Granstrom

For FishingMagician.com, I'm Eric Granstrom. A story resurfaced this week about the possibility of reintroducing salmon above Grand Coulee Dam. I had Dave Graybill as a guest on my Let's Learn program on the NCWLIFE Channel and this is what he had to say. "When it first came up I thought, well that's kinda crazy. How are we going to get them (salmon) OVER Grand Coulee Dam?! The new technology that's out there, if you just Google Whoosh System, and you'll see that there is this great new salmon gun. There are places where they're actually using this. Salmon voluntarily, from a holding pool, enter this pipe. It puts just half a pound of pressure on them and they've successfully (shot salmon) 500 feet in elevation. They just come flying out in a holding pond and everything is great!" At first, the tribes involved say they're looking at trucking salmon above the dam, but this Whoosh technology could be something of use in the future. Dave says the bigger challenge will be getting the smolt from above the dam down past the dam on their way out to sea. He says that's where the big expense lies. Until next time, Good Fishing!
