I read Eric Granstrom’s report for Tuesday, and it reminded me of the great times I have had at the NW Ice Fishing Festival. This is one of those special events that are supported by the local community and they turn out to make sure everyone is happy. The breakfast in the Molson Grange Hall is fabulous, and the Grange Hall is a great place to hang out during the Festival. It’s where you can meet the locals and even participants that have been coming for years from the west side. There was a period when no fish were caught. That’s right, zero. But they gave away all the cash and prizes through drawings and everyone was pleased. Fishing has improved considerably now that they have an aerator installed on Sidley Lake. In recent years over 30 pounds of trout have been pulled through the ice at Sidley Lake during the event, and there were some whoppers, too. People are particularly exited about this year’s Festival. The grand prize has a $1,000.00 value! If you are looking for something to do on January 13th, you couldn’t go wrong by attending NW Ice Fishing Festival in Molson.
