By Eric Granstrom

For FishingMagician.com, I'm Eric Granstrom. I was reading the Department of Fish & Wildlife's Weekender Report and was reminded that an ice fishing tournament is coming to Northeast Washington soon. The 14th Annual Northwest Ice Fishing Festival is Saturday, Jan. 13, on Sidley and Molson lakes in Okanogan County. The annual event is sponsored by the Oroville Chamber of Commerce and hosted by the Molson Grange. My Dad and I travelled to Molson several years ago, filling in for Dave Graybill, and covered the 9th annual event. It was a typical Griswold Adventure for us because we'd never been ice fishing before. Thanks to the gang at Hooked On Toys, we had somewhat of a clue as we drug our sled-full of gear, chairs, carpet, auger and camera equipment out onto the ice. It was a strange feeling being over 100 yards off the shoreline, standing on 10-to-12-inches of ice and purposefully drilling a hole into it. We sat for hours in a constant snowfall dangling various baits into the frigid water, never to get a bite. Only one fish was caught that year but its improved much since. Search NW Ice Fishing Festival for more information. Until next time, Good Fishing!
