Happy New Year everyone! I wish you all the best for your fishing adventures in the coming year. I closed the past year in frustration. I wanted to get down to Potholes Reservoir and fish from Medicare Beach. There are some good spots along the shore here where you can set up your rods, chairs and heater. The rainbow that are caught, while there is open water, can be dandies. It seemed like almost every time I fished Potholes this past summer and fall we landed rainbow that were at least 20 inches long and must have weighed at least 3 pounds. I didn’t make it, though. The weather was very nasty late last week. My fishing buddy Brian Neilson warned me that the very cold weather, combined with freezing fog and rain, had made the roads like skating rinks. He suggested that I pick another time to come down to fish Medicare Beach. Meanwhile, Austin Moser, who is fishing at Lake Roosevelt, reported very good fishing for rainbow. It seemed that when winter really arrived in the region last year, the rainbow fishing took off at Roosevelt and the kokanee moves down to the lower reservoir.
