By Eric Granstrom

For FishingMagician.com, I'm Eric Granstrom. I spent the last week at my parent's trying to help them move into my grandmother's house. A task of building a ramp to make it easier for Mom to get in an out of the house became much more when I found the front porch to be rotten. So a couple day project became and 7-day event. But it gave me a chance to spend time with my Mom and Dad and I was also able to get things moving to help with her dementia. One night, I was able to get Mom to tell me stories of my grandfather's, her Dad's, fish market in Eugene. He bought Newman's Fish Market in 1963 from two brothers who had been running it since 1890. Ben, having been a long time commercial fisherman in Astoria and Bristol Bay, Alaska, was perfectly suited to continue the tradition of quality and service customers of Newman's had come to expect. I remember as a kid during the summer riding with Ben to Portland to pick up fresh fish and shovel ice for days. It was a great week with many fish stories to come. Until next time, Good Fishing!
