By Dave Graybill

I called my buddy Brian Nielson, of BJs Guide Service, to invite him to join me for a day of fishing on Lake Chelan for kokanee last Thursday. He said he had plans for him and his wife to fish for walleye with Shelby Ross on Potholes Reservoir. That sounded like a party I would like to crash, and got permission to join them. We launched at the public access on Lind Coulee, made the short run to the main lake and started trolling off Perch Point. This area is just south of Medicare Beach. Shelby passed out rods that were mostly rigged with the new Butterfly Blades on Slow Death Hooks. These are available through Northland Tackle. I brought my own rod that was already rigged the same. The blue and green are the colors that both Shelby and I like pull behind bottom bouncers. We put eleven walleye in the boat and then headed up the Coulee to look for a big fish—no dice. This was a special day, to be fishing with two of the top guides on Potholes, and watch Brian’s wife Leigh Ann catch most of the fish! We all had a blast.
