The draft management plan for the Chelan Wildlife Area is available and there is a public meeting scheduled for Thursday, April 12th to accept questions and comments on the plan. The Chelan Wildlife Area is located between Chelan and Okanogan counties and covers a total of over 30,000 acres. It is primarily big game and bird habitat, and offers a variety of recreational opportunities, including big game hunting, hiking and bird watching. The meeting will be held at the Chelan County Fire Department and is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. Another item on Lake Chelan is that the annual Lake Chelan Kokanee Derby will be held on April 21st and 22nd this year. This should be a good one with all the kokanee being taken throughout the winter and early spring already. There will be lots of cash and prizes handed out again this year. I would be sure to go to their web site and learn where they suggest to launch and to learn about the two Captain’s Meetings that are scheduled just prior to the derby. You will find their web site by logging on www.somethingcatchy.org.
