By Dave Graybill

Boy, it was sure good to be back on the water. I was away at meetings for ten solid days, and you can bet I planned a trip to Lake Chelan as soon as I got back. I put together a good crew to join me. Rollie Schmitten and I hadn’t fished Chelan for quite a while and he was able to go. My brother in law Tom Verschuren was eager to join us. We launched at the State Park and ran all the way up to 25 Mile Creek. I have had the best luck up here so far this spring. I put two rods out on downriggers and two out the back with 4 ounce weights on a slider rig. I put a variety of Kokabow blades, spinners and squid rigs on all four rods. We used both pink stained and plain corn, scented with Graybills Guide Formula Kokanee flavor. The action wasn’t hot but it kept us on our toes. We put the riggers down to 107 feet and the back rods at 90 on line counter reels. The back rods kept pace with the rigger rods, and we wound up with 18 fat kokanee in the cooler when we quit at 2 p.m.
