By Eric Granstrom

For FishingMagician.com, I'm Eric Granstrom. None of us knows, unless we're professionally trained, how we'd react in case of an emergency. Most of us watched in horror Monday night when a player for the Buffalo Bills suffered a sudden cardiac arrest during their nationally televised game with Cincinnati. It was scary. The looks on the player's faces told viewers that this situation was serious. Thankfully, they postponed the game and Damar Hamlin was taken to a nearby hospital. He was given CPR on the field for 8-minutes before they loaded him into the ambulance. The response by doctors and emergency responders was incredible. The incident made me think of how important it is to know CPR. As fishermen and outdoor enthusiasts, we find ourselves constantly in remote, hard-to-reach locations away from any immediate medical help. If an accident happens or sudden cardiac arrest, knowing CPR is the difference between death and possible survival. A distant relative of mine shot a huge bull elk in Montana. It was the biggest trophy of his life. He knelt down next to the bull, suffered a heart attack and died. Who knows if CPR would have helped, but it couldn't hurt. Until next time, Good Fishing!
