By Dave Graybill

I fished at Brandts Landing on Rufus Woods way back in November, and I thought it was about time that I gave it another try. In November we caught fish, but they were small. Things were different when Keith Hiatt and I fished it last Friday. We had our baits out by about 8:30. I walked up to the truck and when I got back Keith told me I had a bite on one of my rods and when he reeled it in the hook had broken off. Then, at 9:15 Keith landed a 5-pounder. At 9:30 I landed a fish that looked to be at least 8 pounds. We missed several bites and by 12:30 we had four fish on the stringer. The smallest was at least 2 ½ pounds. This was Keith’s first time at Brandts Landing and he said he saw why I like to fish here. Bank fishing at Brandts Landing isn’t complicated. I had our rods rigged with sliding egg sinkers of ½ to 1 ounce, with a fluorocarbon leader of 12-pound test. I tried my favorite shrimp and marshmallow combo, but bright green Power Bait worked the best. After this experience, I want to get back up to Brandts real soon.
