By Dave Graybill

I was planning on going back down to Potholes Reservoir, specifically to look for more of those big bluegill and hopefully find the crappie, too. Then I remembered that I had a great time this past summer on Roses Lake. My fishing buddy Tom and I had a tough time finding any largemouth bass, so we switched to fishing for bluegill and crappie. The bluegill were darn near as big as the ones we are getting on Potholes and the crappie were pretty nice, too. In stead of driving two and half hours, we will just drive about half of that and maybe do just as well. We’ll see. Look for photographic evidence of how we did in my next report. Also, I got a note from a friend that had heard that a bunch of triploid rainbow got loose from the pens on Rufus Woods. I did some checking with some folks I know with the Colville Tribe and learned that no, there hadn’t been an escape of fish from the pens. However, the tribe did release a couple thousand triploids that weighed an average of 4.3 pounds last week. That’s probably what started the rumor.
