By Eric Granstrom

For FishingMagician.com, I'm Eric Granstrom. My alarm went off Saturday morning at 4:30 a.m. It was a half-hour later than when its set during the week, so it should have felt like I slept in. No, it was too early and I was exhausted. Even though the opening of the modern firearm elk season was at hand, I just couldn't confront it...yet. So I turned off my alarm and went back to sleep. Later, I checked my wrist watch as I closed the door on my pickup. It was 11:30. I tried to stay positive but I knew my chances of seeing any elk were slim. But a bright, sunny day ushered my steps towards my favorite hunt. As I rounded the front end of a truck parked at the entry to my trail, a father and son were unloading the first pack of their spike they'd shot earlier. After congratulating them, off I went. A swirling wind kept messing with my hunt, so I made a wide swing and ran into four bulls. Later, another 5-point. You can see the video on our Facebook page. Sleeping in didn't hurt a bit. Until next time, Good Hunting!
