By Eric Granstrom

For FishingMagician.com, I'm Eric Granstrom. After my exciting elk hunt Saturday and seeing five bulls, NONE of which I could shoot, I decided to change tactics Sunday. I'd scoop up the wife and head north, completely out of elk country and go fishing. So, that's exactly what we did. We loaded up the Lund for another adventure and headed to Rufus Woods Reservoir. I figured we'd be pretty much alone, aside from a few scattered duck hunters. It was tempting to throw the shotgun and do a cast and blast, but I left the gun powder at home. As we crossed at Bridgeport just below Chief Joseph Dam, I could see some ripples in the water along the rocks. That's usually a good sign, meaning they're releasing some water, which means a water flow above the dam in the reservoir. Water flow on Rufus is just about a necessity if you want the fish to bite. We launched and ran up above the lower net pens. We fished for walleye as well as rainbow while the screen on my fish finder was barren. We tried at lone pine and then above the can-line with nothing. But it was a beautiful day for a boat ride! Until next time, Good Fishing!
