By Dave Graybill

It’s the time of year for one of my favorite fishing experiences. The area streams have dropped enough to allow for comfortable wading, so it’s time to chase the small rainbow and cutthroat that inhabit our area streams. I took a drive up the Icicle to check it out and found it looking beautiful, and I can’t wait to grab my light-weight fly rod and get up there. This isn’t the only stream I like to fish. I waited too long for the Teanaway. It’s too low and warm now. The Entiat is another one of my favorites. It should be just perfect right now. Remember, you must start fishing above Entiat Falls, and I like the area near Spruce Grove. For these small streams all you will need is a few dry flies. I have always found a the Parachute Adams, Stimulator or regular Adams irresistible to these small trout. If you want to try your luck for bigger fish, the Methow and Yakima rivers are famous to big rainbow and cutthroat. Another favorite of mine is the Kettle River, which is way up north of Republic. It’s loaded with rainbow and browns, here are some huge brown trout in here.
