My friend Dennis Beich and I hadn’t been on the water together for some time, and I had promised that I would get him out on Banks. I made the promise good last Wednesday. Banks is his go-to lake and he loves to catch walleye. I told him that I have had poor success on Banks this year, and he said, “they had to get hungry sometime”. With hopes they would be hungry we met at Big Walleye’s, bought some crawlers and headed up lake. The wind was howling so I changed my plans and we launched at Northrup. We ran around the corner and started out in the Punch Bowl. We were getting so many perch that we left. We tried the northwest corner of Barker and although we got a few bites didn’t hook a walleye. We moved to the other side of Barker and managed to get more bites, but a lot of weeds. I finally hooked and landed a 16-inch walleye here. We gave up on this spot, though, and tried the bay at The Poplars. Although we got a good number bites, we left with just one fish for the day. My “tough fishing” streak continues on Banks this season.
