By Dave Graybill

I am sure it was mayhem at the areas open to fishing for summer run salmon this past weekend, and for good reason. Catches have been excellent off the mouth of the Entiat River, in the Entiat itself and at Chelan Falls. If you don’t feel like joining the crowds there are other attractive options in the region. Typically, I spend a lot of time at Banks Lake this time of year. The walleye fishing has been slow for me so far this season, but I am hearing of some good catches of bigger walleye coming from Banks now. Walleye fishing can be good one day and horrible the next, but I plan on being on the reservoir enough to get some of the good days. If the walleye fishing is slow, I can always switch to smallmouth bass. I have never had a slow day of bass fishing on Banks. I have my favorite spots along the west shore and in the boulders above Rosebush, but smallmouth can be found everywhere on Banks. I also want to get back up to upper Rufus Woods Reservoir. The fishing for triploid rainbow trout of 4 to 6 pounds is very good up there this year.
