For FishingMagician.com, I'm Eric Granstrom. Talk about waiting until the last minute! The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife announced yesterday afternoon that fishing in the Brewster pool will open next Thursday, the day before the Brewster Salmon Derby. Whew! I'm not sure if they'll get the 200 entrants they were hoping for for a good derby, but at least it's on! This will be the 14th annual addition of the salmon derby in Brewster. Of course, this year's contest will be a King Salmon derby only since there's no fishing for sockeye. So that gives you one day to test the waters. Although, it would have been kinda cool to just wait until the 2nd to open it, on the first day of the derby, don't you think? That would have allowed everyone the same access to those Kings holding outside the mouth of the Okanogan. According to the website for the derby at www.brewstersalmonderby.com, there's up to $20,000 in cash and prizes avilable including King of the Pool good for $2,000 and cash prizes for the adult, youth 9-to-14, and 8-and-under. There should be plenty of big fish to go around. Until next time, Good Fishing!
