The busiest fishing weekend of the year is April 27th and 28th this season. Hundreds of thousands of anglers will take to the water for the annual opening of our lowland lakes. If you are getting a late start on planning, I have some suggestions of where you might still be able to find a camping spot at some of the more popular lakes in the region. The closest one for those who are coming from the west side is Fish Lake, near Lake Wenatchee. They have a lot of camping area and the Cove Resort has boats for rent and a fishing dock. Jameson Lake is one of the most popular destinations and there is plenty of room to park a camper or RV. There are resorts at both ends of the lake. One accessed off Highway 2 and the other through Mansfield. From the town of Conconully, just north of Omak there are two excellent fishing lakes. There are resorts on the reservoir, or lower lake, and a State Park. I have been here on opening day in the past and there was still lots of space in the State Park. Way up north, Curlew Lake offers terrific fishing. There are resorts here and a State Park that doesn’t fill up, even on the busiest of weekends.
