By Dave Graybill

Happy April Fools Day. I will be out fishing, so we’ll see how this day treats me. With each passing day more and more opportunities come into play for anglers in the region. The ice has come off of most of all but the higher elevation lakes and reservoirs. Fishing has been good already for walleye on Rufus Woods Reservoir, and Banks Lake, Moses Lake and Potholes Reservoir will be coming on line soon. I got a report on Potholes that said that the walleye fishing is still tough down there, but the fishing for largemouth bass is going strong. I have noticed that the number of largemouth that we’ve caught while walleye fishing on Potholes has gone up dramatically. It sounds like there are some real hogs being landed by people fishing “back in the brush” in the Dunes area of the reservoir. At lot people will be headed for Burke Lake this weekend. The Annual Trout Derby sponsored by the Quincy Valley Chamber of Commerce is happening this Saturday, April 6th. The trout fishing on Burke should be great, and the big fish that the chamber puts in the lake for derby will add to the fun.
