By Dave Graybill

I just returned after being on the road for nearly a week. I traveled first to Port Angeles for Commission meetings. From there I drove down to the Columbia River Gorge to attend Fish Camp, which is held at the Peach Beach RV Park. Fish Camp invites outdoor writers and broadcasters and those who make outdoor products. We gather early each morning for breakfast. Groups are divided up among guide boats to fish for sturgeon, walleye or salmon. Most of us opt to go salmon fishing, as this is when the upriver brights arrive at spots like the mouth of the Klickitat and Deschutes rivers and Drano Lake. After we return from fishing and the fish are processed we are fed a variety of delights by the camp cooks. After dinner we hear presentations about the products, usually by the owners of the companies. This is an opportunity to really get to know the folks that make these products and get the back story about how their companies got started and what they are developing. I have made many long-lasting relationships while at Fish Camp, and I want to thank Ed Iman, who organizes the event, for the all the work he does to make it happen.
