By Dave Graybill

I am seeing some great catches of both Chinook and sockeye coming from anglers fishing the Brewster Pool. It looks like the Brewster King Salmon Derby is going to be a good one this year. Meanwhile, I have been keeping track of the sockeye numbers at Tumwater Dam on the Wenatchee River. This is always an extremely popular fishery, with angler success very high. In spite of the long lines at the boat ramp, boaters will fish Lake Wenatchee almost daily until the condition of the fish declines. The count over Tumwater on July 17 was over 35, 000 sockeye, and it is estimated that there could be over 50,000 in the lake when it opens. That could be as early as a week away. I will be sure and let you know when I get the official announcement. I have already started getting things ready. I have a good supply of “0” size dodgers. I have a spool of 20-pound fluorocarbon leader to tie up my three-hook rigs. This year I am going to start out using lead balls instead of my downriggers. I will land fish and get my rigs back in the water at a faster pace.
