By Eric Granstrom

For FishingMagician.com, I'm Eric Granstrom. I grew up learning how to fly fish on the Pilchuck Creek in Western Washington. This stream that winds its way through southeast Skagit County is full of little cutthroat trout. It's also surrounded by thick stands of cedar, fir and alder trees. The brush grows down close to the bank in most locations, so overhead casting is just about impossible. My Dad taught me how to roll cast. As a result, whenever I fly fish today, I pull out the old, trusty roll cast even though I'm free and clear of surrounding brush. Such was the case last weekend while we camped along the Teanaway River between Liberty and Cle Elum. Dave's article on how to beat the heat of a week ago spurred me to take my fly rod and see if I could coax a bite. With temperatures soaring into the triple digits, being near a cool, rushing piece of water is a savory choice. While the fish weren't biting whatever I offered, it was a good chance to test out a new cooling towel I found a Sportsman's Warehouse. The Frogg Togg Chilly Pad certainly did the job. Until next time, Good Fishing!
