For FishingMagician.com, I'm Eric Granstrom. The final lake on 3-day tour of Eastern British Columbia was Whiteswan Lake. While Premiere lake is on the Western sloped of the Canadian Rockies, Whiteswan is IN the Rockies! !
The access road off of Highway 93/95 is immediately gravel the entire 24 km to the lake. It's a major truck route with plenty of warning signs to be able to look out for log trucks and dump trucks. While the route is decent enough to haul large trailers for camping, there are several sections not for the faint of heart. Make one false move on a few narrow sections and you could be down a 1,000 foot ravine!
Whiteswan Lake itself sits in a basin of spiring mountains. It's breathtaking beauty is rivalled only by the fish that ply its depths. The campground sits on the far end of the lake amid a sprawling forest. There are 37 sites, a day use area and a boat launch.
We parked along the shoreline and again I used a slip sinker and Power Bait and landed a beautiful 19-inch rainbow that fought like crazy!
The Kootenay region of B.C. is well worth the visit. Until next time, Good Fishing!
