For FishingMagician.com, I'm Eric Granstrom. Marion and I just celebrated our 5-year anniversary. We typically take a trip to the coast the first week of July to celebrate Independence Day as well as our anniversary. We didn't make it last year, so we really wanted to go this year. We left July 1st and headed over the mountains to Grayland. The traffic wasn't too bad, except through the JBLM area of I-5, like usual. Our first full day on the coast was spent crabbing off the dock at Tokeland. We put our two pots in early, about 2-hours after low water. We checked our pots every 30-45 minutes and rebaited with chicken legs if needed. An entire day netted us just two keeper crabs. I had an interesting conversation with a Fish and Wildlife officer, who told me not to waste space on our crab catch report cards tracking crab on the coast. She said that's really meant for Puget Sound and they don't really care to keep track along the ocean. She also said a boat is the best method to get out into the channel and load up. Next up was some surf fishing for perch. Until next time, Good Fishing!
