By Eric Granstrom

For FishingMagician.com, I'm Eric Granstrom. Dave had a pretty good idea about the opener for Lake Wenatchee, as WDFW announced an opening set for Thursday. The crazy thing is that they also announced an opening for the Wenatchee River on August 1st. You'll be able to retain up to 4-sockeye salmon per day and up to two adult hatchery Chinook salmon. Anglers must release coho and wild adult Chinook. Selective gear rules are in effect, except use of bait is allowed on the Wenatchee River. For Lake Wenatchee, selective gear rules are in effect -- up to three single barbless hooks per line, no bait or scent allowed, knotless nets required. Two-pole fishing is allowed with a valid two-pole endorsement. This is a fun fishery WHEN you finally get out on the water. That's the drawback. The only public launch is at the State Park on the east end of the lake, which is only a single-boat launch. Anglers will line up here long before daylight on the opener and patience is at a premium. I'll be interested to see how anglers do on the river itself during this fishery. Until next time, Good Fishing!
