By Eric Granstrom

For FishingMagician.com, I'm Eric Granstrom. What a sockeye run it has been so far in the upper Columbia! As of Tuesday, 642,775 sockeye salmon had been counted over Bonneville Dam. Not even half of those fish have made it up above Wells Dam at this point. This could only mean that the fishery in the Brewster Pool has the potential to stay on fire for several weeks to come. In my 32-years living in Eastern Washington, I don't remember seeing so many guides playing these waters in the upper Columbia. And yet, I'm still hearing from anglers in private boats having great success pulling in daily limits of these great fish. What's even better is the economic impact this fishery is having on the towns of Brewster and Pateros. The 8th anniversary of the Carlton Complex Fire that ravaged much of Pateros was just this week on July 18th. The lightning-caused wildfire burned 256,108-acres and destroyed 111-homes in Pateros and another 47-homes near Brewster. So, as you head north on US-97 to catch a limit of sockeye, it would be great if you stopped and shopped and dropped a little money in these small, North Central Washington towns. Until next time, Good Fishing!
