By Dave Graybill

Free Fishing Weekend was June 11th and 12th this year, and I posted my favorite photo taken during one of the Kids Fishing Days from years ago. The photo was of a young boy who was thrilled with catching his first trout. I talked about the importance of these fishing events to get kids into fishing. I don’t think there is a better way to get kids hooked on fishing and making fishing a part of a families’ outdoor activity. Last week I got an e-mail from the father of the boy captured in the photo. Travis Fox wanted to give me an update on his son’s fishing activities and sent me a few photos of Luke catching some Columbia River salmon. It was really great to see that the father of this boy was keeping his son active as an angler. It has always been the hope of the organizers of kids’ fishing events that the experience would lead to a lifetime of fishing memories. It seems that it is the case with the Fox family. You can see the “first fish” photo of Luke and one of him at age 15 with a nice salmon check out my Fishing Magician dot com Facebook Page.

The photos show Luke Fox catching his first fish and with a nice king at age 15.
